Keywords/Index entries: sound film narration
| Summary: | In the master’s thesis the author explores how sound influences the development of a narrative and contributes to shaping emotions and rhythm. Sound accompanies us from the womb to the end of life, as our sense of hearing cannot simply be switched off. It has a particular impact on our consciousness and emotions, which makes it an essential creative element. She examines the physical properties of sound, the history of sound in film, sound recording, and the process of post-production. She deepened her knowledge in the basic components of the soundscape, since they allow her to create a film’s sonic image and, through them, build and complement the film’s narration. She also addresses the role of silence, as absolute silence rarely occurs in cinema. She regards sound as an equal storyteller that enriches the visual dimension. Her analysis includes scenes from films by other creators who, in her opinion, have used sound with great creativity, as well as films on which she worked as an editor. |
