Summary:

The central argument is that the liberalisation of the media market, the emergence of commercial television broadcasters, and technological advancement together triggered a gradual shift away from cost-optimised, multi-camera studio production towards a more sophisticated, cinematographic visual language. This shift was not merely technical in nature, but reflects broader social, economic, and cultural changes within the new state. The analysis draws on a combination of two methodological approaches. The first involves a historical and analytical examination of selected television series, from the earliest productions at RTV Ljubljana in the 1960s through to contemporary prestige crime dramas, with particular attention to the aesthetic, genre-related, and production dimensions of individual works. The second, autoethnographic component reflects on my own creative experience in developing and realising a pilot episode of the television series Penzion Bled.
