Summary:

The author examines the history and practices of working with young performers in Slovenian audiovisual production. Through interviews with film professionals, parents and former child actors, the thesis traces the process from early auditions to what stays with a child after the premiere. While older generations relied primarily on spontaneity—often leading to systemic difficulties—contemporary approaches focus on building a safe, structured environment that protects the authenticity of young performers. Particular attention is given to the supporting roles of the crew and parents, alongside the ethical boundaries between guidance and exploitation. The thesis concludes with a personal reflection on directing the short film HOOK(ED), connecting theoretical findings with practical production experience.
