| Summary: | Whilst being one of the Wiszniewski's most moving films, "The Primer" colud also be described as a portrayal of the state of the Polish soul in the mid 70s. It strays from documentary genre more than any other of his works. Whereas, regardless of all the staging and artistic interference, his other films bore a connection to the documentary genre (whether via a genuine character, structure or original archive footage), "The Primer" bears no such connection. The extraordinary picture does not fit into any genre. It is a freak of nature, a cinematic oddity like no other. It took considerable bravery and imagination, or perhaps the bliss of ignorance as to the impications of one's actions to make a film in which for the most part people recite the alphabet. |
