| Vsebina (angl.): | Guy-Blaché protegee Marian Swayne concots a prank plan to get her fiancé to the altar in this vivid comedy with shades of Buster Keaton's later feature Seven Chances (1925). Her bethothed loses all his money on the stock market, calls of the wedding and refuses to take financial assistance from his girlfriend. The ludicrous comic exesses that follow, in Guy-Blaché's world, serve to highlight his blinkered heteronormative logic and the gendered inequality of property rights. Marian forges a telegram to Fraunie telling that he will inherit a fortune if he marries by noon. The plot backfires for Marian as, instead of turning to her, Fraunie hares about all over looking for a a bride that will guarantee he gets the cash. This film is a striking showcase for the comediennes of the silent era, who were more than the equal of their celebrated male counterparts. (PH in BFI brochure) |
